Workshop: Reset – Body and Mind // The Vagus Nerve: Your Key to Health
New research has been pointing to one nerve that could just be the key to your mental health and well-being. The Vagus nerve is the longest and most complex nerve in the human body. Travelling from the Brain stem all the way down to colon. This nerve is like an information superhighway and it goes back and forth from the brain to the organs and also communicates with the microbiome. It specifically works talking to the heart, the lungs, the gut and the Brain.
Research is showing that the vagus nerve exerts its greatest function through its critical role in the parasympathetic nervous system. The Parasympathetic is the rest and digest. That´s the good one, the part that helps us to really repair the body. When we increase that vagal activity and the vagal tone, our parasympathetic rest and digest nervous system kicks in and we relax and the body knows how to heal itself in that state.There are ways we can affect our vagus nerve functioning.
